About the Artist

Emma Paveley is an oil painter who lives on the wild rugged coast of Vancouver Island in a small town called Ucluelet.

I have always been drawn to the arts. I started drawing at a young age, with the gentle guide of my parents and my artist grandmother who told me for inspiration I simply needed to look at, or find beauty in my surroundings.

I found my love for oil paints while attending the Etobicoke School for the Arts in Toronto, however after high school, I put down my paint brushes for nearly 14 years.

When my grandmother passed, I acquired her beloved art supplies. Once I held her brushes in my hands, I knew I wanted to paint once again.

A lover of water, growing up landlocked, I dreamt of the sea my entire life. I knew I wanted to live my life by the Ocean.

I moved west with the intention to live in Tofino, and found myself in love with the town of Ucluelet BC which is now my home.

When I am not working or painting, you will find me on my long board in the surf or wandering the rugged coast of Ucluelet and Tofino, camera in hand, beloved dogs by my side.

Artist Statement

I am mesmerized by the ocean. Captivated by the energy, movement, reflections and sparkling of light on water. What is beautiful to me, and what I try to represent in my art is the essence that I experience while I am in, or next to the ocean. My paintings focus on the sea's energy. The dance of light, impression of colour, and feelings found in moments of awe as waves crash around me. Through my paintings, I strive to bring the viewer to a moment where one can hear the sound of seafoam fizzing over the surface of glistening waves, or sense the power of a monumental wave that rises out of the ocean during a storm."
