"Chasing Chesterman"
On the biggest stormy winter days in Tofino a massive wave appears at North Chesterman’s beach. Surfer’s dream of offshore winds and perfect, massive clean sections to glide across. End up in the wrong place on the wave and you’ll be smashed into the shallow sandy bottom. (True story I cracked a surfboard here). Watching from the shoreline (or from the inside paddling out) the mist comes off the top of these waves and billows into the air. In the distance Frank’s island stands tall. This painting “Chasing Chesterman’s” is all about the search for these perfect waves.
